The Tenchi (Heaven and Earth) katana uses our most durable material for its blade construction. The blade body is a through hardened 9260 silicon carbon spring steel. It is handsomely finished with a cast brass Musashi Double Ring tsuba that is thicker than the standard steel tsubas with an antiqued finish. This sword has a heftier and more antiqued look and feel than other steel fitted blades.
(The no-fuller version blade has a more forward center of gravity heavier weight. This type of blades have more lateral strength and are easier for tameshigiri from the weight and the reduced drag. Whereas the varient with fuller is better for kata practice, the no-fuller varient is better for cutting practices.)

Katana Shura Type 28
|
|
With Fuller (bo-hi)
|
|
This is the overall appearance of the sword. Shape of the tsuka (before drilling), and blade geometry. The Shura has our standard 28" in length from notch on habaki to kissaki. Solid width at 0.3" with a sori of 0.7".
The nakago (tang) on all our new standard blades have increased in taper and finished cleanly. Tsuba is blackened milled steel with a black dyed finish. Kashira and fuchi are matching blackened finish. Additionally, bo-hi geometry and kissaki have all been improved from our first generation blades.
Note: Third photograph down is a shot from the edge of the blade to show edge geometry.
Tsuka (Grip) and nakago (Tang) - Real same skin (Ray Skin) panel wrap over wood then wrapped in black cotton cord. Also note the new double wooden mekugi (Retaining Pin).
The tsuba (hand guard) of the Shura is a durable and smooth steel construction with tapered corners. No relief or engraving on the surface to scratch your knuckles. Simple, elegant, and extremely durable with a dyed finish. The ideal fitting for regular cutting exercises in your dojo.
The Shura is available in 2 versions. With fuller (bo-hi) and without. Both styles are identical but with very different behavior due to the difference in weight and CG distribution.

The heat treatment and oil quench method we used on the Mokko give this blade the perfect hardness from a 1060. The Mokko is very difficult to polish because of its hardness, which makes it very scratch resistant. The blade body is more rigid than any of our other katanas. It is the best balance of roll/chip resistance of any other 1060 monosteel katanas anywhere. (not too soft or too hard). An excellent cutting blade.
This is the overall apparence of the sword, in and out of the saya to show the curvature and sori. This sword is stiffer than our other blades but still has an extended bo-hi (blood groove) for weight reduction. The center of gravity is also more forward than the Higo and the Maru making it better for full swings. The higher carbon content (0.6%) makes this a more rigid but more durable blade.
Kissaki and nakago geometry - (Note that since all grind and polish are done by hand, the final geometry of the kissaki and apparence of hamon on each individual katana will vary slightly according to the final polisher).
The new Mokko still uses the standard after market Mokko Bamboo alloy tsuba and fitting set. The finish has been changed to blackend.
The blade construction of the Mokko is made at the request of our local iai instructor. It is currently our most durable blade to date. The price on this sword cannot be beat. Its quality is comparable to many $650 iaito on the market today.
